Sorghum genomics project

Patricia Klein, Robert Klein and John Mullet are the project PI's for the TAMU-ARS Sorghum genomics team. Specific research projects currently include:

The construction of an integrated genetic, physical and cytogenetic map of the sorghum genome.

Genetic mapping of agronomically important trait loci in sorghum for map-based gene isolation and marker-assisted selection.

Using direct selection technology and BAC sequence scanning to examine gene density in the sorghum genome and to aid in gene discovery.

Using DNA diagnostic microarrays/chips to explore the molecular basis that allows plants to adapt to adverse environments, particularly drought stress.

Comparative sequence alignment between sorghum and rice.

Analysis of genetic diversity in public sorghum breeding material.
